Strictly speaking he was not elected as PM yet.
His party narrowly got the most votes (second votes to be precise) but the number of seats is identical to that of the CDU.
By convention the party with more votes gets to name the PM but that’s an unwritten rule and in any case the election of the PM in parliament will only take place after weeks of coalition negotiations.

Very late, the UK in the main time already had a prime minister of Turkish origin.

Turkish origin? He was born and raised in Germany. His parents came from Turkey, but he’s not Turkish.

There, fixed that for you.
But yeah, technically he hasn’t been elected yet. He only won the election.

Turkish origin=Türk with a German citizenship. We should not discuss about races and genes in 21. century. It is a shame.

The title is plainly wrong. There isn’t even a date for the election of the prime mninister, it will probably be sometimes in April. And it isn’t even decided that he will be that guy, because there is no coalition agreement yet.

I do have a strange affection for Cem Özdemir, always had it. This is the guy who, back when weed was still illegal, [did his ALS Ice bucket challenge on his balcony next to his home gown cannabis plant](https://youtu.be/REOA3xXR8tI?si=GpEs2D3JTDETuZiW).
This is also the guy who, [when heckled during an interview he gave in the streets during Covid, looked to the side, and told the heckler very audibly “Please shut the fuck up, thank you. I’m speaking right now, okay? This is Germany and I’m speaking. Please shut your pie-hole. Thank you. I’m speaking, move to the side please.” *Turns back to the camera* “Right, where were we?”](https://youtu.be/9_jI6WwUr1g?feature=shared)
I’m not being sarcastic, the man has always been relatable as fuck and while he’s more conservative than I am I have always liked him. Way to go man!

Considering how poorly integrated and assimilated Turks living in Germany and other European countries are, this is quite a big deal.

Why are the German Greens so electorally more successfully than pretty much every other European Green party?

He could become chancellor, simply because people like him. Imagine, a German chancellor with Turkish roots – I’d love it

I would have very strong reservations about allowing citizens who can vote in another nations elections to hold an elected position in another.

The section under this post has become a perfect playground for people with a superiority complex. They see themselves as white Europeans and just want to spit out their hatred against Turks and Muslims.
I don’t know this person. I don’t think politicians stay loyal to their origins, no matter where they come from and they shouldn’t, anyway. Do you really think a politician in Germany would say, I will only work for Turks or things related to Turkey because of my roots? Don’t be ridiculous.
They should work for the whole country where they do politics. And that’s what they actually do. You and your romantic ideas

Funny thing this guy is really disliked in Turkey due to his role in getting Armenian Genocide recognized in Germany. He has not been called a Türk ever since, but a Circassian, a fact which allegedly is based on his ancestry. So we have a guy, who is not a true German, neither a true Türk. There is a saying for that in Turkish, “iki cami arasında beynamaz” – “who is not able to choose between 2 mosques, has no place left for prayer”.

Meanwhile liberal parties all lost seats. FDP down 18 seats, SPD down 9 seats, Greens down 2 seats.
CDU gained 14 seats and Afd 18.
So doesn’t seem to be that big of a win for Greens or liberal parties.
