Many people think that you are better protected with a credit card than with a debit card. But that’s not right, says Mastercard.

"The protection we offer is identical for all payments within our network. Whether you paid with a credit card or a debit card does not matter. You are protected against fraud, but also if you have not received an order or if the goods have arrived damaged"explains marketing and communications director Thomas Lechien. If you have problems with a credit card, you can submit a file directly via the online platform My Card. If you paid with your debit card, the procedure must be done through your own bank.

TLDR: Criminals can place orders online using just the card number, expiration date and CVC code, without a PIN or physical card. Within Europe, two-step verification is not mandatory for payments under 30 euros, but there is a cumulative limit of 100 euros. Bancontact always uses two-step verification, while Mastercard and Visa do not always do this, especially outside Europe.

    1. De betere bescherming is vooral dat je als klant bij een kredietkaart veel makkelijker je geld kan terug krijgen, of zelfs verhinderen dat je het kwijt bent.

    2. The second paragraph quoted is important. Online fraud can now as easily happen with both credit and debit cards (there was no cvc on debit cards in the past with Maestro). When there is fraud with a credit card, Worldline will handle this and is usually fast and serious with charge backs. With a debit card, you are at the mercy of your own bank, which will make it as difficult as possible to even lodge a case in the first place. (Having to make an in person appointment, months without progress, declining without reason given.

Someone was able to spend 800€ of my money in a casino in 5 transactions.
I called cardstop within the hour and they told me they can see the transactions were done from a device and ip adress that wasnt mine.
I didnt give out codes or itsme confirmations. My cardnumber is enough for my bank to give away my money.

I filed a fraud report with police and bank.
14 days later i get a standard mail telling me its my own fault that i give away codes.

      Fuck you KBC
