UM System President Mun Choi posted his remarks on Thursday in regards to how MU students may involve themselves in sports betting ahead of this year’s NCAA basketball tournament.

According to a release from Choi, he stressed the importance of “sharing expectations for Mizzou students, employees and appointees related to sports wagering.”

Ahead of the start of the tournament next week, Choi told MU students, staff and appointees not to:

  • Attempt to influence the outcome, margin or performance of any athletic event in which an Mizzou student-athlete or team is participating
  • Share confidential information concerning Mizzou Athletics, such as injury status, game plans, or strategic adjustments, in connection to sports wagering
  • Threaten or harass Mizzou student-athletes as a result of their athletic performance.

The university encouraged every student who may participate in sports wagering to follow local laws and university policies.
