Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, for discussions on the crisis in the Middle East following the February 28 launch of the U.S. and Israel’s strikes on Iran.

Seoul’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that Cho requested the Saudi government’s interest and support over a stable supply of crude oil during their conversation the previous day.

The Saudi minister, for his part, sought Seoul’s attention and support, given that his country suffered damage to civilian infrastructure and energy facilities from Iranian attacks, including oil fields and refineries.

The minister said the other five Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC) nations have also reported serious damage.

Cho expressed deep concern, consolation and solidarity regarding the civilian and infrastructure damage reported by the GCC member states.

Cho also thanked Riyadh for cooperation behind the safe return of South Koreans from the region, and the two sides agreed to closely consult on possibly operating emergency Incheon-bound flights from the Saudi capital.
