Had dinner last night on Mt Alexander road. Went for a walk and came across this old Chinese restaurant. Explored a bit of the cavernous interiors with a lot of the old restaurant intact – ornate ceiling and walls, arch ways in the window front, wooden lanterns.
Now turned into a piano bar downstairs with Kev taking requests. Upstairs was quiet empty but had a small bar and dance floor. Bartender said the restaurant closed over 20 years ago.
We enjoyed a drink in the old curved banquettes while Kev played tunes. Wholesome time.
A quick google search didn't reveal anything about the restaurant. Would loved to have seen it in its heyday.

What was Kev playing? Chopsticks?
Is this the place that used to be the Mongolian barbeque? Shame there don’t seem many of those still around.
Didn’t this also used to be a shithouse teenie-booper club?
It was a Chinese restaurant, but then it became a nightclub called Deluxe. A lot of the decor is actually from the nightclub playing up the Chinese restaurant origin
Kinda reminds me of a bar in the city- Cheeky Monkey or something??
Vodka Cruiser Light much classy
but could you get a chinese meal, a succulent Chinese meal?
This was still operating as a Chinese restaurant in the early 2000s and did vaguely dodgy takeaway. This was particularly helpful, if underwhelming, for the Foxtel call centre next door.
Cool. Nice one
