pretty new addition from not too long ago, instead of only having the countdown appear, the red pedestrian figure light also flashes! pedestrian lights are original, just the timer units are the only new add-ons. TfNSW should implement these in a more places in my opinion, gives you an idea on how long is left before the light changes to solid red rather than the pedestrian light flashing red by itself.

I feel like I’ve already seen them around for a while no?
When I went to Taiwan literally every light had this, it was great.
There’s been one at Ashfield station for ages. Still considered a trail though
And I thought it was 7 seconds till the little man went green and the petrol price went up again.
At last, Sydney finally catching up to the 21st century! Never too late.
Goodness. No pressure, people. Get to it! 😉
I love pedestrian crossings so much 🤩
Chatswood also has the countdown timer. Super useful.Â
There is one at Liverpool outside Westfield which has been there for a long time.
They had this in the city for a while around world square and Town Hall. They also had lights in the ground because people kept looking at their phones instead of looking up. They took them all out pretty soon after installing and I have no idea why
haven’t we had these for a while? i swear there’s one down from redfern station – the lights at abercrombie st where you cross over to get to usyd engineering. i feel like they added it bc so many uni students were always dashing across at the last second to avoid to waiting at the lights for another cycle. great that they’re adding more though.
Adelaide has had these for decades 😂 welcome to the 21st century
We have these at a few major intersections down in Wollongong. It’s great.
There are quite a few inthe Chatswood area with countdown timers for years
I’m a bit confused. What’s the point of having numbers counting down the time to complete a crossing? I’m not hating or anything, just genuinely asking. I can’t really see the pedestrian lights anyway so it doesn’t impact me much. Does this affect how long there is to cross or something…?
they have these in the CBD already
They’re everywhere in Thailand. And I haven’t been to Thailand for 8 years. We are so fkn far behind as usual.
These lights treat pedestrians with _respect_. They give you the necessary information and let you decide whether or not you have time to cross.
The old system treats everybody as if they’re the slowest pedestrian, and criminalises you if you think you know better.
I love these so much, really wish more places used them as the norm
These are in lots of areas Sydney bro
Two seconds! Heaps of time for pensioners. Kids will wait for one to pop up.
