Croatian President Zoran Milanović said he does not understand why Serbia is acquiring offensive weapons.

“I can understand to some extent that they want to have a strong defensive force, but they are also acquiring offensive weapons. That worries me, although Croatia is in NATO and the European Union,” Milanović said, Croatian media reported.

On March 12, Belgrade confirmed that Serbia had purchased Chinese CM-400 supersonic ballistic missiles, which have significant destructive power.

After Pakistan, Serbia is the first country to receive such missiles from China.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has therefore written to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Brussels stated that Serbia’s European path requires clear strategic choices, including “avoiding strategic dependencies that are incompatible with that objective”.

Milanović also warned that Israel is supplying Serbia with weapons, saying he had not seen Plenković complain about Israel in his letter to the NATO secretary general.

“Israel is moving toward Belgrade, whose targets are Croatia, Albania and parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Milanović said.

Israeli PULS missile systems and the Hermes 900 unmanned aerial vehicle were shown to the public for the first time during the “Strength of Unity” military parade in Belgrade on September 20, 2025. | BGNES
