Netflix’s global hit “KPop Demon Hunters” won Best Animated Feature at the 98th Academy Awards.

“KPop Demon Hunters” was named the winner on Sunday at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, beating out “Arco,” “Elio,” “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain,” and “Zootopia 2.”

While accepting the award, Korean Canadian co-writer and co-director Maggie Kang apologized to “those of you that look like me” for how long it had taken for Hollywood to represent Asian people in a movie like “KPop Demon Hunters.”

Kang dedicated the film to Korea and for Koreans everywhere.

“Kpop Demon Hunters,” which follows a fictional K-pop girl group that fights to protect the world from demonic spirits, has accumulated 500 million views since its June 2025 release and is now the most-watched Netflix work of all time.

The film was named the best animated motion picture at the 83rd Golden Globes in January, and “Golden,” performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, won best original song in a motion picture.

Last month, “Golden” also became the first K-pop song to win a Grammy.
