The ruling Democratic Party will seek to pass a plan at a National Assembly plenary session Thursday for a parliamentary investigation into allegations of fabricated indictments by prosecutors under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.
Party leader Jung Chung-rae announced the plan Monday during a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly, saying the party will push for the parliamentary investigation first and pursue a special counsel probe afterward.
Jung stressed that even if most elements of a case are true, even one falsehood can undermine the entire case, saying any such instances should be thoroughly investigated and corrected.
Floor leader Han Byung-do said the party will uncover the full extent of the fabricated indictments carried out by politically motivated prosecutors under former President Yoon.
Han said the request for a parliamentary investigation was reported at a National Assembly plenary session last week and that the party will immediately begin consultations with other negotiating groups to form a special committee for the probe.
After the meeting, Han and other floor leaders visited National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik and asked him to swiftly process the plan for the parliamentary investigation.
