I was already annoyed by Migipedia (the online product database of Migros) displaying automatic translations of user comments by default rather than the original comments, but I didn’t expect a modern automatic translator to be able to be that bad… it’s not the first incorrect translation I stumble upon on Migipedia but this one is really nonsensical.

I really don’t get this trend nowadays on the internet (YouTube, Reddit…) of translating content automatically and displaying the result instead of the original content. A copy&paste of text to an online translator takes 5 seconds, there’s really no need for translation to be embedded into web pages. Okay, maybe 10 seconds if you’re on mobile. Anyway, in itself the feature wouldn’t be such a nuisance if it was opt-in rather than opt-out. Instead of displaying an automatic translation with the "Show original language" button, why not by default show the original text with the "Translate into German" button?
