Almudena Negro, the mayor of Torrelodones, a nearby town, said: “I think [Shen Yun is] absolutely wonderful from an artistic point of view, but also from the point of view of courage, because I think you have to be very brave to put on a show like the one we’re watching.”
“Spectacular,” said Alexandra Rodríguez Sánchez, a veterinarian. “We loved all the figures they make, the exercises, the movements. very beautiful, of course. We had never seen it, so perfect.”
Through classical Chinese dance and music, each performance portrays themes of spirituality and kindness, while exposing the brutal oppression of faith by the Chinese Communist Party.
Juan Antonio González, an account manager with Telefónica, said, “I was struck by the scene set in the present day and seeing a little bit of the difficult, complicated situation in China right now when it comes to freely expressing this art.”
Ms. Negro said, “It gives you goosebumps, especially in the tenor piece,” later adding, “I interpret [the song lyrics] as a vindication of religious freedom and that everyone can have their own beliefs and that states should not interfere in these matters.”
Ms. Salazar said, “All the colors, the orchestra—it is a performance that we are not used to seeing in Spain. I think it brings us closer to Eastern culture, and we are loving it.”
Ms. Rodríguez said: “You feel a calm, relaxed, and more spiritual atmosphere; it really does transmit peace and tranquility. We liked it. Go ahead and come, you’re going to like it, and children included, everyone is going to like it,” she added. “Spectacular!”
