This is absolutely insane. If they let it run we should seriously consider breaking out the pitchforks and torches.

This is a probably very misleading article, and at best a social experiment. But fuck it, I’m rooting for the AI on this one. What’s the worst that can happen? The AI effectively replacing our highly corrupted and negligent politicians? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for protecting honest work procured by honest humans, but politics just ain’t it. A Technocracy ran by AI in conjunction with engineers doesn’t sound necessarily worst than the current crooked and impotent gerontocracy that we have.

Here we are! A first article I found so far where someone is trying to make an LLM contest in Mayor elections!
How do you perceive this?

This will be huge milestone for *AI*. /s
With LLM as a mayor, next we’ll be able to vote TF2 aimbots as senators, and finally – a programmable dishwasher might become president someday.
I mean, at this point 90% of society already can’t tell a difference between T9 autocomplete and intelligence, so who cares anymore?

If dogs and cats can serve as “mayor” of some tiny podunk town symbolically, why not?

[Victor Miller, a facilities technician and computer assistant with the Laramie County Library System in the US state, disputes the notion that he applied to have an AI bot run for mayor. “That’s a little bit of a salacious way to say it,” he told The Register. “I’m of course the one running.”](https://www.theregister.com/AMP/2024/06/12/ai_bot_wyoming/)
>While it’s been reported that Miller put VIC on the application form and that VIC stands for Virtual Integrated Citizen, VIC is also short for Victor. Miller explained that he’s running for mayor with the promise that he would use AI to help make better decisions. Using the email address aiformayor2024 [at] gmail [dawt] com probably didn’t help either.
>”*Right now, the term of art that we playfully use is meat avatar*,” he said.
>VIC, the AI agent, Miller explained, is a custom version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. “*I told it that it is running for mayor of Cheyenne and to try to be funny. I gave it a few other tips, like staying firm on a vote once it has been made*.”
>Asked whether he has any specific policy goals, Miller said, “*VIC gets asked that a lot. He seems to bring up transparency. I don’t know if that’s something hardwired in him or if he’s just sick of hearing me rant about it. But that’s definitely rubbed off on him.*
>”*Of course, he likes technology, economic development, big on equality and housing, which housing is a big deal around here. So right, I’m not exactly sure what happens under the hood when you ask him what his policies are. But that seems to be what he rattles off.*”
This is actually kind of an interesting development.
Gotta say, VIC makes as much sense as any Wyoming politicians.
