During the meeting, the Head of State extended his congratulations to his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and to the entire Kazakh people on the successful conduct of the referendum on the new Constitution.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Zhaksylykov highlighted the high voter turnout in the referendum and drew attention to a point emphasised by Aleksandr Lukashenko, “Now our countries will celebrate their Constitution Days on the same date — March 15th. This is now a holiday for both Belarus and Kazakhstan. It further unites our nations.”
The diplomat also mentioned that a large number of polling stations were established abroad (in 54 countries), including in Belarus. International observers from nearly 40 countries and 11 international and regional organisations also monitored the referendum.
“We are grateful to Belarus for sending its representatives both from the Central Election Commission and as part of the CIS mission and other international organisations. The observers gave high praise to the preparation of the referendum and noted that this is a further step in the development of democratic processes in Kazakhstan,” the Ambassador stated.
