NATO’s Arctic artillery forces are training for a new reality in Modern Warfare. True and attacks. For decades, artillery units relied on mobility to survive. Fire a few rounds, move quickly and avoid enemy retaliation. But now soldier stationed in Norway are learning specialized techniques to counter attacks from above. Crews are relearning when to shoot and scoot and when to disappear. Units trained on how to dig concealed firing points and how to reduce radio and heat signatures to make it harder for a drone to pinpoint their location. The focus on drone training is also a big shift in mindset that reflects how artillery units think about warfare, informed by lessons from Ukraine or Officials estimate that 80% of strikes on Russian targets are carried out by drones.
