A fire broke out on the roof of the
Serbia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale on Wednesday, producing a
large column of dark smoke that could be seen above the lagoon
city.

The fire brigade responded quickly after the alarm was sounded
shortly before 10 am, but strong winds complicated the effort to
put out the blaze, reigniting materials that had been
extinguished and forcing the department to intervene many times.

According to initial reports, the damage did not spread to the
pavilion’s furnishings, the exhibition, or other surrounding
structures.

There were no reports of anyone getting injured.
