Otokar announced that the first batch of the 1059 Cobra II 4×4 armoured vehicles to be produced for Romania has entered service with the Romanian Land Forces.

The first batch of Cobra II 4×4 vehicles produced in Turkiye, a part of the large-scale order from Romania, has begun its service. At the same time, the local production in Romania will commence shortly. The first batch was delivered in June 2025.

It is seen from the image shared by Otokar that some of the Cobra IIs are in pickup configuation allowing for oversized payloads to support logistics.

Otokar’s [BIST: OTKAR] export of Cobra II in various configurations, aside from being one of the largest land systems exports from Turkiye, has also paved the way for Otokar to extend its reach in the European market, with a production facility being established in Romania.

Cobra II configurations for Romanian service are known to be:

-APC (Manual Gun Mount or RCWS)

-Reconnaissance Vehicle

-Anti-Tank Vehicle

-Anti-Tank Command Vehicle

-81 mm/120 mm Mortar Carrier

-Engineering vehicle

-CBRN reconnaissance vehicle

-MEDEVAC

Outside of active service with the Turkish service branches, Cobra II has also been used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the war with Russia.

Cobra II, as a follow-up to the Cobra 4×4 armoured vehicle, features significantly increased protection and adaptability. The vehicle, aside from the mentioned configurations, is available in radar carrier (ASELSAN’s STR 400-G actively used by the Turkish Army), air defence (MANPADS-class missiles), and recently shown fire support configuration with MIZRAK 25L turret for 25 mm chain gun or autocannons.
