Really gotta know who they’re paying off to get these tittles each year. We are definitely NOT the happiest country. Unemployment at all time high, poor people keep getting poorer due to our governments decisions. And still someone thinks we are happy?

I think they did not ask the people who are on breadlines or at the unemployment center.

Israel at #8 surprises me, but I guess when America pays for everything what is there to moan about
Specialist-Stick-297 on
This is just going to snowball because everytime they win they’ll just get happier and then no one else will ever have a chance ..

Hmmm.. Maybe they are happy they don’t have to go to work everyday because their unemployment is at record highs?

Idk this thing comes up every year and has more to do with being content in some ways. Still surprised Finland is at the top of them as someone who used to live there and left because of the economy situation. Great place to study and retire, not a great place for a career atm

This is simply a cultural thing. Some cultures are more prone to complaining than others.
I mean, Israel is #8 and they get bombed every other Tuesday, with terror attacks being common and half the world having ostracized them. Meanwhile, Southern European countries with peace, amazing climate and international PR are very low on the list.

A lot of (northern) European countries in the top ten.

Probably people in the rest of the world are, on the whole, unhappier than the Finns.
Looking at the news on this sub, I’ve only ever seen two types of stories about Finland: that its economic situation is worse than it was in 2019, and that yet another round of military exercises has taken place there.
Likely any more positive news about Finland either gets censored or simply loses out to negative coverage in the media.

Bet you they’ve happy about this ranking too.

Imagine, entirety of Finland is in an economic gutter, where we are approaching Greece levels of mismanaged finances. There are no jobs. There is an aggressive neighbor on the border. And the world is going to shit.
But atleast we are not you guys. You poor sods. It’s going to get so much worse from here on out, but Finland will endure.

I’ve read that Finland has an unemployment rate on the higher end of the scale within the EU. Strange that this doesn’t influence happiness negatively.
Not a digg on Finland, as they’re obviously doing most things right all things considered, but it’s always been odd to me that consistently, the countries faring higher on this Report, also have some of the highest suicide rates in Europe.
I propose this report be called the “World Contentment Report” or “world comfy living report”.
Random_Guy37 on
Yeah, sure. Unemployment rate, inflation rate and national debt say otherwise
Rupperrt on
This probably says more about different countries evaluation of what happiness means for them than about how they compare to each other.
Finns may just have a more stoic approach and are easier content and less prone to chasing dreams just to be disappointed or compare themselves to others. Low ambitions in a healthy way..

Country with the highest alcohol consumption per capita, one of the highest suicide rates in Europe, six months of darkness, and a neighbor that wants to invade them just won “happiest country” for the ninth time. At this point this isn’t a study it’s a cry for help from everyone else.
