MADISON (WKOW) — Rep. Kevin Petersen (R-Waupaca) will leave the Wisconsin State Assembly at the end of his current term after serving in the chamber for two decades. Petersen announced Thursday he will not run for reelection.Â
He was first elected to the Assembly in 2006 and has served as Speaker Pro Tempore since 2023.Â
In a press release announcing his decision not to seek another term, Petersen did not provide a reason for not running for reelection. He thanked his legislative colleagues, his staff, friends and family and his constituents.Â
“Thank you for the trust and integrity you placed in me,” he said. “It has been a privilege and honor representing you in the legislature. I am humbled and honored.”
