South Korea’s KF-21 fighter jet, set for mass production this year, will be exported to Indonesia, a joint development partner, for the first time.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA) said Thursday that South Korea will sign an agreement to export of 16 KF-21 jets from Korea Aerospace Industries during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit later this month.
The DAPA said the parties will sign a formal contract after negotiations in the first half of the year.
The export would mark the first overseas sale of a South Korea-developed fighter jet.
The KF-21 project, jointly pursued with Indonesia, is the country’s largest-ever defense program, with a total cost of 16-point-five trillion won, or roughly 11 billion U.S. dollars.
The jet completed a successful test flight in January, and authorities plan to wrap up development in the first half of the year and begin deliveries to the Air Force later this year.
