There’s no way she’s coming out of this looking good.
If she capitulates? She’s out of office tomorrow.
If she flat out says no, the economic repercussions of that decision will tank her ratings.
This is going to be a good show.

I wonder if countries such as Japan could benefit more from say no to Donald rather than keep barking. He’s old, senire, and a dictator wannabe, he changes ideas every day (not to mention that upsetting arrogance he has). Everything he says he’ll change it the next day, he’s the most unreliable ‘ally’. Until the USA will believe other countries needs them they’ll have the upper hand.
But regardless of what she says, the common citizens will pay more for stuff, as usual.
She’s tough. The perception in Japan is that she is doing exactly what needs to be done. Fly right there, deal with him directly, firmly, politely.
And he likes her and the attention and is not unduly pressing Japan more as a result. He is shallow and vain and is easily flattered by any woman who isn’t “fat and ugly” (in his view).
She is a mature statesperson who knows how to use diplomacy and doesn’t need to react to every nonsense he spews. She is also very used to dealing with patriarchal old fools.
I don’t like most of her conservative views but she is handling this skillfully and I give her credit for that.
Japan should just send war ships at least solely to escort vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. It is clearly an important region of the world to Japan. US is fighting this war for their allies as well as for themselves. If Japan thinks US – Japan alliance is important, they should act like it.
