What absolute vile creatures. Thankfully there was no picture of the child in the article, because that would have absolutely destroyed me

  2. How does something like this happen?

I struggle to comprehend someone can be so cruel to someone with so many mental and anxiety issues – let alone their own child.

Is there a mental condition their parents must have had ? Like hysteria of some sort?

    Such a sad read.

Anyone with a brain and a basic grasp of morality knows what these parents deserve.

But its the people around that family that get more of my attention. They shouldn’t be punished, but they should be ashamed. Very ashamed. Someone, least of all that estranged sister, knew what was up. It don’t take much to be a hero in this world.

  4. Honestly the scariest thing about this case to me is just how many more there will be going on completely undetected in the UK right now, many of which will likely never be unveiled and the victim never saved.

  5. What a horrible, horrible story.

When I read stories like this, I have to wonder what on earth the rest of the family were doing though. This woman had an older sister and younger brother, who apparently saw the fact their sister was deteriorating:

    >her younger brother said in December 2022 Steffie was bed-bound and too weak to open a box of chocolates he had given her for Christmas.

How do you let your sibling suffer like that? Even if were completely estranged from my parents, if I didn’t hear from my siblings for a few weeks, I’d be trying to get in contact with them and check in. If my sibling was bed-bound for a prolonged period of time I’d be wondering why they were at home and not in a hospital.

    >Her older sibling, unnamed in court and estranged from their parents, said: “With the right support and encouragement from my mum and dad, she could have done so much with her life.
“Instead she was left to fade into insignificance in the most inhumane way possible. No sentence could ever be able to atone for that.”

But older sister didn’t want to check up on Steffie? Maybe my relationship with my family is unusual by today’s standards, but if my siblings were suffering from crippling anxiety and/or living with an abusive person, I’d drop everything and go and support them.

“They were sentenced to eight years each in prison and will serve three quarters of that before being released on licence.

Mrs Justice Stacey added she did not accept there was “evidence of genuine remorse…rather of victim blaming”.

Alan Davies looked down throughout the remarks but both stared straight ahead and showed no emotion as the sentences were handed down.”

Utterly disgusting. That poor woman, completely failed. I had to read twice that she was 32yr old.

It sounds like the daughter had depression as she didn’t get out of bed but the parents could have got mental health support for her

Locally known to be quite active with a particular ‘populist’, pro-Brexit, right wing party, so I’m reliably informed.

I bet you won’t see that fact mentioned in the papers though!

  9. In a different article I read on this story, it said that Steffie did not have any diagnosed mental or physical problems. Assuming this is true, this means they weren’t collecting disability checks for her. She also had access to a phone. As an adult mentally competent enough to go to college, I don’t understand why she couldn’t seek help elsewhere?
