The project is part of broader efforts to enhance energy security in the region, with Serbia, Greece, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria set to strengthen their cooperation.

The construction of the gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia will not be completed before 2028, despite earlier expectations that the project would be finalized by the end of 2027.

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović stated that construction activities are set to begin this year, with the gas link expected to become operational in early 2028.

The planned capacity of the interconnector is approximately 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. It will provide an additional supply route to Serbia, including access via the TANAP pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Greece.

The project is part of broader efforts to enhance energy security in the region, with Serbia, Greece, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria set to strengthen their cooperation.

Serbia has already reserved 300 million cubic meters of gas annually at the LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis for a period of 10 years.

Belgrade also emphasizes its progress toward integration into the European electricity market, aiming to become the first non-EU country to join it. | BGNES
