    Iceland’s total catch in February 2026 was over 137,000 tonnes with capelin accounting for 86,000 tonnes and demersal species landings increasing

    The total fish catch in Iceland for February 2026 exceeded 137,000 tonnes.

    Of this, capelin accounted for nearly 86 thousand tonnes. Demersal landings increased by 6% year‑on‑year, while flatfish landings rose by 50%.

    Between March 2025 and February 2026, the total catch reached 1,096,000 tonnes, an 11% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. Pelagic landings increased by 22% over the previous period, while flatfish landings fell by 13% and demersal landings declined by 1%.
