When you’re gay your dating pool is already tiny, you can’t afford to be picky and racist AND gay

Just like men are more tolerant with their political ennemies than women.

Might be that gay people are drawn to cities (more accepting, more of a gay community. Esp places like SF and NYC) and cities tend to be more multi-ethnic
Edit: this is just a guess that could be way off. Doesn’t explain why lesbian couples don’t also follow this trend

There’s some stigma to being in an interracial relationship. Once you’re out as gay, I doubt it matters anymore you’ve already broken the ultimate stigma.

% of what ? % of all couples in an interracial relationship? % of couples in that demographic (male-male married for example)?

So far, most commenters are not noticing that (it appears) gay men specifically are in interracial relationships more. Not all gay people

I don’t think this chart is well designed. Yikes. Why are there even colors?

Maybe stereotypes but so many random gay couples tend to look like siblings or cousins

I’m already mixed race so it was near inevitable that I would be in an interracial relationship.

Boyfriend is Italian and Mexican, I’m talking it as a win. Haha
His boyfriend, however, is a boring white guy. He could do better.

Took me a second to read it. Stacked bar charts are your friend. This was hard to fully understand at a glance

The gap between straight couples unmarried and married is odd.
I am be off but im presuming a combination of family pressure to settle down with someone same race and maybe a bump in unmarried due to people experimenting or worst case scenario fetishizing other races but not wanting to raise children of that race.

I’m interested in the model with comparing straight women, straight men, gay men, gay women. Would comparing those 4 double the data for homosexual couples, almost assuring that one of the two gay labels would be chosen so really it’s just a difference between do female gay couples or male gay couples date more interracially?

The split between married and unmarried is also interesting, it’s there across all types of couples too.

My guess for the disparity in lesbian couples vs. gay male couples: I think gay men tend to be in situations where they meet a wider array of partners outside of their socioeconomic status or immediate area.

Someone already pointed out in another comment that gay men are more likely to move to big, diverse cities, while lesbian couples are more likely to settle down in [smaller cities or small towns](https://www.advocate.com/news/gay-men-cities-lesbians-country-census). Gay men are also much more likely to use [online dating apps](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/06/26/about-half-of-lesbian-gay-and-bisexual-adults-have-used-online-dating/) than lesbians (although both groups, of course, use the apps more than the straights.)
Whoa! Not fat white chicks?
