The European Union Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, has stated that the election of the country’s President is a completely internal process and it is not up to the European Union to intervene.

“The choice of your president is your choice… of your parliamentarians, who according to the Constitution must vote and propose candidates,” Orav told a group of journalists in Pristina.

He emphasized that the lack of political consensus cannot be solved by the international factor.

“If no one proposes a candidate… I don’t know what to say, I don’t know what the expectations are from us in this case,” he said, writes Telergafi.

Orav added that the European Union has no role in determining the process or names for this position.

“We have no access to tell you how to elect the President or who to elect,” the ambassador declared.

According to him, Kosovo has already reached a sufficient level of institutional maturity to manage such processes on its own.

“Kosovo is quite mature,” Orav emphasized.

According to him, last year was a lost year.

“I really hope that this will not be the same. But three months have already passed. A lot has been done, so it is good that the Parliament has had time to ratify international agreements, the first payments can come. But now there are clear deadlines for when certain reforms must be implemented, by June, and there is a risk that Kosovo will lose this money. And this is not in the interest of Kosovo, it is not in the interest of the government nor the opposition or the citizens,” he said.
