I call it now. Monday evening he’ll release a statement saying he was locked and loaded with his finger on the trigger but after receiving many phone calls from Arab, European and world leaders who told him to not strike Iranian power plants he has decided to hold off on it FOR NOW but that he can change his mind at anytime. And then he’ll say the strait isn’t actually that important for the US and they don’t need or use it, and he was just trying to help the world but they told him Mr President please don’t do it. He will then also repeat that we have already won the war and obliterated Iran, there is nothing left and he also had the Iranian people in mind for not destroying the power plants because it would destroy their country like never before and they probably won’t be able to ever rebuild again and he doesn’t want that. Thank you for your attention on this matter!

Trump is searching for anything to get Iran to surrender from his war. He can’t accept that Iran was well prepared for this war. They knew that closing the Strait would cause damage to the world economy. Iran is Trump’s Ukraine.

So Iran says everyone is free to pass but the states and Israel, Trump says open it up or we bomb oil production and power generation, then Iran says you bomb us we close the straights for everyone.
I predict Trump commits war crimes and screws the world over.

Trump is playing a game of chicken with Iran, and he is hoping they will blink first and veer away … he is used to using his usual threats of force to try to beat them into submission. Trouble is, they won’t blink and are quite capable of causing widespread destruction of countries across the Middle East.
But please explain to me again MAGA fuck-heads – *exactly* how would have Kamala been worse?

The biggest concern here is that this fucker gets pushed to a point where employing nukes becomes a possibility to him. And we know that he’d love to be the first president in 80 years to drop a nuke . And once that happens, the world might unravel for good

Not only can Iran fully close the strait, they can give the order for the Hoothies to do the same for the red sea. Forgot oil at $200/barrel… get ready for $300…
Trump needs to do something he’s never had to do before… de-escalate, before he fully loses this war.
He allowed Netanyahu to walk him and America into a trap that no previous president was dumb enough to fall for.
So it’s figure out how to end this ASAP… or go all in with a full scale ground campaign leading to massive casualties and another multi-decade military commitment.

Does “completely close” mean that Iran would block its own ships from traveling through it in addition to the ships of other countries?

The conditional structure of Iran’s threat here is important: complete Hormuz closure is specifically conditioned on US striking Iranian power plants. This isn’t an unprovoked threat – it’s Iran establishing a deterrence ladder that mirrors Trump’s own energy infrastructure logic.
What makes it credible is the asymmetry of costs. A complete Hormuz closure would hurt Iran too – they export oil through it. But Iran can sustain economic pain longer than the Gulf states can sustain a water crisis. UAE has ~2 days of desalination reserve capacity. Qatar and Bahrain are similarly exposed. Saudi Arabia is more resilient but still heavily dependent. Those are the US allies that host the bases enabling the air campaign.
So the actual escalation calculus is: Trump bombs Iranian power plants → Iran fully closes Hormuz → Gulf desalination starts failing within days → MBS and UAE are suddenly more interested in a ceasefire than in hosting US bombers. Iran doesn’t need to defeat the US militarily. It just needs to make the cost of the war fall on people who can pressure Trump to stop.
Whether Trump understands this chain is a separate question from whether the chain is real.

i’d push back on the Ukraine comparison a bit. Ukraine had NATO weapons, Western financial backing, active European public sympathy, and a real functioning economy before the invasion. Iran has the Axis of Resistance, a population that’s been surviving under sanctions for 40+ years, and leadership ideologically committed to not backing down regardless of cost.
the one part that actually holds: both involve an aggressor badly underestimating the defender’s willingness to absorb punishment. Trump assumed a few airstrikes = capitulation. that bit tracks. everything else, not really.

Im starting to think Trump isnt a very good negotiator. All he seems to do is threaten and bully people without any course of working through problems together. He governs with an iron fist instead of an olive branch. He thinks because he’s got the powerful military behind him, he doesnt have to work with anyone and he can just strong arm any situation. Most corrupt and unqualified president weve ever had, so far.
