Police and labor authorities raided locations linked to a fire that killed 14 workers at an auto parts factory in the central city of Daejeon on Friday.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Police and the regional employment and labor office on Monday sent approximately 60 investigators and other personnel to begin a joint search of the auto parts manufacturer Anjun Industrial, its facilities and the home of the company’s chief.
The investigators intend to determine the cause of the fire and whether the company fulfilled its safety obligations.
They will also look into whether an unauthorized structural change took place inside the plant’s fitness room, where nine people were found dead.
Authorities said they will decide whether to charge the company with violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act after analyzing the evidence obtained.
