I am currently on the 18 month job search visa, which expires on 25 March. Back in January, I reached out to the Migrationsamt because I am currently in the process of applying for external PhD funding for a project in Germany. I am from a non-EU country where I can enter the Schengen zone visa-free for 90 days.
I wanted to know if I needed to leave for example from the 24th to the 26th, then start the 90 day process and hope my funding was resolved by then. Upon asking, I received the above email.
If I’m understanding correctly, they will send me a Fiktionsbescheinigung without me filling out any additional information? I sent them an email last Wednesday (18 March) to inform them of my status and request the Fiktionsbescheinigung be sent, but I have only received the automated response, which states (translated by DeepL) “The appointment letter has a presumptive effect, meaning your residence permit remains valid until the appointment date. You can present this appointment letter to German authorities.”
My concern is that I’m not scheduling an appointment, from what I’m aware. I also do not yet have the ability to fill out an application for a residence permit without my funding secured, which is why they’re issued. I’m not able to pack everything and leave within the next two days, but I’m starting to worry that I’ll need to leave so that I don’t end up getting deported and am unable to complete my doctoral studies if I receive funding due to being banned from the EU. Does anyone have any advice on what to do in this situation?
