The Kabul Tribune (KT) – Kim Jong Un has been reappointed as North Korea’s President of State Affairs after a parliamentary session in Pyongyang, Reuters reported on Monday.

During the meeting, officials discussed amendments to the socialist constitution and confirmed key leadership positions, including the head of the State Affairs Commission.

North Korea’s parliament largely serves to approve decisions made by the ruling party. It also reviewed the country’s five-year economic plan announced earlier this year.

Attention has focused on whether Pyongyang will revise its constitution to reflect Kim Jong Un’s policy that defines South Korea as a hostile state, moving away from its long-standing goal of peaceful reunification.

In recent years, Kim has taken a more confrontational approach toward South Korea, abandoning the idea of reunification.

Meanwhile, his sister, Kim Yo Jong, was not included in the latest list of members of the State Affairs Commission, despite having served since 2021.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry said it is reviewing the development. However, analysts suggest her absence does not necessarily indicate a loss of influence, noting she may still play a powerful role within the ruling Workers’ Party.
