Head of the Parliamentary Group of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri, has accused the Kosovo Government of inaction in the face of rising prices and the economic crisis, saying that “Kosovo is sleeping.”

In a reaction on Facebook, Tahiri emphasized that countries in the region and those of the European Union are taking concrete measures to protect citizens, while Kosovo, according to him, is lagging behind.

“The region acts, Europe intervenes, why is Kosovo sleeping? The government must urgently take concrete measures to cope with the severe economic crisis and rising prices. The situation is alarming,” he wrote.

Tahiri cited examples from the region and Europe, noting that North Macedonia has announced new measures, Albania is preparing interventions to reduce prices, while Spain has already approved a 5 billion euro package to ease the burden on citizens and businesses.

The MP from the Democratic League of Kosovo, Hykmete Bajrami, has also reacted in the same vein, raising concerns about the increase in oil prices and the chain effect on the prices of imported products.

She has proposed reducing VAT on fuel from 18% to 8% and halving the excise tax until the market stabilizes, criticizing the Government’s lack of meetings with chambers of commerce and sector representatives.

On the other hand, Minister Mimoza Kusari-Lila stated to Radio Free Europe that the situation remains manageable and that the Government is working on a law to set price ceilings for essential products.

According to her, this law aims to protect low-income citizens and beneficiaries of social schemes, while the products that could be included are flour, milk, oil, eggs and baby food.

However, Kusari-Lila stressed that it remains unclear whether there will be a functional Assembly to approve this law. Otherwise, institutions will continue to monitor the market and support local production to mitigate the impact of price increases./Telegrafi/
