Malta Vision 2050 is not simply about economic growth in the abstract. It is about creating the conditions for future industries to take root in Malta, and ensuring that today’s children are equipped, inspired and prepared to take part in them. Malta Space Park sits firmly within that vision.

There is something deeply meaningful in the transformation it proposes. A fort, once designed to guard against invasion threats, can now be repurposed to serve science, society and future generations. Malta Space Park is not simply about infrastructure. It is about giving a historic national site a new purpose, aligned with the country’s long-term direction.

Space research forms an essential part of how Malta prepares for the industries and technologies of the future. It is through research that countries build expertise, attract collaboration, create specialist careers and develop the knowledge base from which new economic sectors emerge. That is how a country creates future opportunity and gives children a more secure path ahead—not only by inspiring them, but by ensuring that research is not kept at a distance from the public, but is connected to society, visible in practice and capable of inspiring the next generation directly. For Xjenza Malta the commitment to facilitating research is not theoretical. Malta Space Park is intended to host projects that can place Malta firmly on the scientific map. XMHelios will always be looking at the Sun, collecting data that can be used internationally and giving Malta a real role in solar observation and research. In that sense, “Sunny Malta” has just been given a new meaning. Alongside it, XMPrisma will act as the Malta Space Park’s optical hunter, scanning the skies in search of asteroids and Earth-like planets, and giving Malta a place in the excitement of genuine scientific discovery.

At the heart of that public-facing vision is Esploraspazju, a dedicated space-science centre for children. This is central to the project’s purpose. A country that wants to prepare its young people for future industries must first allow them to encounter those industries in ways that are tangible, exciting and memorable. Esploraspazju can do exactly that by turning curiosity into ambition.

“Malta Space Park is about more than infrastructure. It is about giving research a home, giving children inspiration, and giving Malta a serious platform from which to prepare for the industries of the future.” – Dr James Catania

That is why Malta Space Park belongs naturally within Vision 2050. It brings together research, education, heritage, public space and long-term economic ambition in one national project. More importantly, it reflects a simple truth—a more secure future for the next generation depends on the decisions taken now to build the industries, skills and opportunities that will shape their lives.
