I’ve made good friends in bars, but outside… what you do? Finnish people is not very social if there’s no alcohol involved.

I have this problem to. In USA or central/southern europe its still doable but i have found that at least in finland most people that goes to events are really anti social or have a friend group. When i talk whit co-workers or the few adult friends i have the only thing they do in their free time whit friends is drink (they are between 20-30)

Best way is to consistently be up at a place with any sort of regulars and just by sincerely show respect with zero expectations for them, you will soon create your own herd

If options are being in a bar, or at home, maybe there could be some improvement needed for one’s imagination.

That reminds me of the shopping baskets that signal people are single here. I think they brought the pink ones back for Valentine’s Day. Leave it to Finns to find a non-verbal way to connect with others lol

life has changed a lot. Back in the day before grocery stores you got milk and eggs etc from neighbors. You went to church on sundays. You hung out with people from work or school. You didn’t have internet to distract you from loneliness so you called up a coworker and went out for fishing together. People had picnics outside, there were A LOT more clubs and hobby groups for different interests…..
Life just changed. We got social media.

Lmao i literally made my first and best friend here in lidl. We still joke about the fact that how we met considering he is Finnish and people here are too introverted to do something like that.
I asked him about beers and we got talking and now not only us but our partners are also friends and since we met in a grocery store in our town, we live nearby as well.
I think the main takeaway here is to just talk to people, what’s the worst that can happen? They aren’t gonna start fighting with you. And it’s not embarrassing to try, even if it feels like it. Well it might be scary but I don’t think there is anything wrong with it..

What does this have to do with Finland?
