The Croatian Football Federation and Nike today revealed the new national team kits which Croatia will wear at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The new design pays tribute to one of the most symbolic moments in Croatian football history, the national team’s match against the United States in 1990, widely regarded as the beginning of Croatia’s modern international football story.
The home kit retains Croatia’s instantly recognisable red-and-white chequered pattern but introduces a more refined look, with smaller squares across the shirt.
Ahead of the launch, fans were asked to vote for their favourite Croatia kits in history. The iconic 1998 home kit worn during the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France was selected as the all-time favourite.
The blue away shirt from the same tournament finished second, while the black away kit worn during the 2018 FIFA World Cup came third.

Croatia captain Luka Modrić said the national team shirt continues to carry a special meaning for every player who wears it.
“Even though I have been lucky enough to wear the most beautiful shirt in the world 194 times, it is still a special moment every time,” Modrić said.
“This design reminds me strongly of the 1990 kit and those historic scenes when the story of the Croatian national team truly began. It is inspiring and reminds us of the players who laid the foundations for today’s success.”
Modrić added that the new kit successfully blends Croatia’s football heritage with modern performance standards.
“The kit is modern, light and comfortable for playing, but most importantly it keeps what matters most, the recognisable Croatian chequered pattern. We will wear it with great pride.”

Alongside the traditional home strip, the away kit introduces a dark blue design featuring subtle tonal chequers. The look offers a strong and elegant visual identity while complementing the classic red-and-white home shirt.

Both kits are produced by Nike and incorporate Aero-FIT technology, designed to improve ventilation and regulate temperature during matches.
The shirts are also made using advanced materials and recycled components, reflecting a more sustainable approach to sportswear production.
