  1. They always go on sale!!!! I hate all these headlines of palm oil and people don’t buy because the taste has changed, Easter eggs are always on sale and now with clubcard prices people think this is some conspiracy

  2. I’m also not spending £5 for not even 200g’s of chocolate… Lindt is cheaper than that.

  3. For me it’s not even the palm oil, it’s just the value for money isn’t there. I’d rather treat myself or someone else to a proper bar of chocolate than a generic chocolate egg that doesn’t really have anything going for it.

  4. The amount of FB posts this has been posted on today, word-for-word, is a little odd.

The trouble is, the taste really has changed.
No longer buy Cadbury chocolate – it’s awful.

  6. Wise_Old_Can on

Customers are right – Cadbury’s is dogshit since the Americans bought it and turned into waxy palm oil trash or whatever they did to it.

  7. Its not the taste its the fact you are getting less product for twice as much money. Like most other stuff in supermarkets

  8. It all comes down to value for money personally.

Easter eggs just _aren’t worth it_.

They’ve been shrinking in size for years.

They’re not even shaped like an egg now!

I’m hoping this “palm oil” / “they don’t taste the same” movement hits sales, because the only way we can start to claim back value for money for a decent product from these giant corporations is to hit them where it hurts and not buy their products.

Remember when their slogan was “a glass and a half in every one” then it changed to “a glass and a half in everyone” when they started using palm oil instead. Never bought one from the sneaky bastards since.

And £2+ for a tiny bag of mini-eggs? You can get right to fuck with that.

  11. messiah-of-cheese on

Im disappointed that as a civilisation we still haven’t got over pricing things like £2.95… its £3, ok!

  12. Yeah, that’s the reason why. Not that people don’t want to spend 5 pound on a below average egg…

  13. Yes people! This is how we show them. Smack the pricks in the pocket so hard, the share holders feel it

  14. Little_Sound_Speaks on

Cadburys chocolate now days tastes awful, and the whole Easter egg thing your paying money for a 90% empty box 😂.

  15. Delicious_Bet_6336 on

Don’t be daft – they’re “on sale” because shoppers think they’re getting a discount.

Put it another way – where is the non Cadbury alternative here? Answer, there isnt one, because Cadbury still sells

  16. Making a big effort this year to not buy my nieces palm oil chocolate. We have to vote with our wallets.

This is roughly the same price they were 5 weeks ago. I bought six for the grandkids in Morrisons at approx £2.75 or something a month ago. They were supposed to be on offer. Yes the chocolate has changed and possibly some aren’t buying it. But they haven’t slashed the price. That’s the correct price. The higher one is the inflated one to make us think we’re getting a good deal.

Can I ask a stupid question? I thought Cadbury changed recipe like 10-15 years ago, I believe to include palm oil. It’s been a talking point that it’s not as nice ever since. HOWEVER, it’s only been since around Halloween last year I’ve seen the parroting everywhere of “palm oil chocolate”. I remember a few years ago (maybe 2018/2019ish) that people did get more aware of the environmental issues with using palm oil but not once do I remember people connecting Cadbury being mid with palm oil until last year.

  19. I had to bulk buy Easter eggs last year, so needed to find the best price going. Every supermarket had an offer like this on then too, it’s not just a this year thing.

These eggs are on offer in Tesco: £4.50 reduced to £2.25, which is the same price for the same approx size as last year (I didn’t note chocolate weight so that might have gone down).

  20. Everyone needs to buy ‘milka’ It is much closer to the Cadbury of yesteryear with no palm oil.

  21. Hot-Efficiency7190 on

It not the taste as pricing is same for Nestle. It’s simply that £4+ is just too much for novelty chocolate. £3 is still too much but we fool ourselves there is a bargin due to the discount. Possibly that’s the point.

  22. AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 on

These companies have been constantly shrinking the amount of chocolate every single year and still have the cheek to put the price up.

They can go royally fuck themselves.

  23. Shitty taste aside, it’s like 40p of chocolate in a £4 box. That’s why I’m not doing it

  24. I’ve never met anyone in real life that won’t buy cadburys. We are having to fill up the easter eggs multiple time a day in the shop I work in. We are having no problems selling them, palm oil and all

  25. I’m a big chocolate eater but definitely not any sort of connoisseur or food critic and I honestly can’t tell the difference.

  26. I noticed Aldi and Lidl have massively cut back on their seasonal lines after taking weeks to clear stock a couple years back

I don’t think the fact that its Cadbury’s has much to do with it, people just don’t want to spend £5 on a small chocolate egg, the sale price is really what the majority are willing to pay.

  27. A_Chicken_Called_Kip on

I’m not spending £4.75 on 180g of shit chocolate just because it’s in the shape of a fucking egg. More than £26 per kilo. It’s mad. Even £2.95 isn’t exactly a bargain. I’m refusing to buy it just on principle now, even if it’s “slashed” in price

And don’t even get me started on the price of a bag of mini eggs now.

  28. stalinsnicerbrother on

This seems like a reverse – psychology viral advert but hey ho.

Cadbury are basically dead to me now, I have no reason to buy anything they make. If I want actual chocolate I’d get something European and unadulterated.

  29. Shot_Net3794 on

Good, fuck them and while we’re at it, get them to back to using the old chocolate that didn’t melt in your hands instantly

  30. Verbal-Gerbil on

I am/was an absolute chocolate addict. Prices are so high now that I use the per kilo/per 100g and if something is reasonably priced, I may get it. I’ve only bought once in the past month and I’m not missing it. Greed lost them their best customer

  31. I’m so glad everyone else is waking up to how awful Cadburys tastes now. It’s not just about the price.

Tony’s has been on a club card offer in tesco the past week and it’s not taken long for the shelves to empty because people are happier to pay for it.

  32. Cute-Cat-2351 on

Classic American businesses it. Take a brand, cheapen it to make as much short term profit as possible, and when its degraded sell it on.

  33. I used to love mini eggs, tried them twice this year and both times they tasted of vomit. Even their dairy milk is stodgier, and their wispas are just…not right anymore, they arent airy or chocolatey. I bought a mini easter egg at the start of the year for cheap but now I’m debating even eating it for Easter. I’d rather go with Lindt or one of those non mainstream brands, maybe more expensive but at least it tastes of chocolate
