  1. Is this a problem? If so, why? Isn’t .co.uk just more popular than .uk because of the fact it is more familiar to people and people want those domains more? If a company wanted a .co.uk domain that was already in use, they could either pay for it if they thought it was worth it, or just buy the .uk domain which might be avaiable and cheaper. Simple supply & demand – what’s the issue?

  2. Nobody wants .uk, it’s been .co.uk since the beginning for us. I see a lot of numbers but I don’t see why it should worry me that nobody uses .uk?

I also see a shit-ton of em dashes but apparently we’re no longer allowed to complain about that.

  3. It was a dilemma for a couple of years, but it’s largely settled now. We let our .UK domains expire. nobody has registered them.

  4. Overstating it a bit by calling it a dilemma…

.co.uk is the accepted domain to the extent .uk can be seen as dodgy.

  5. What is the dilemma? Nobody from the UK would ever care beyond .edu.uk or .gov.uk type ones

There’s something about .uk that just feel worse. I don’t like it. It feels like it should be Ukraine. .co.uk will always have better branding in my opinion.

  7. Why did they even open the direct .uk registry? Because it seems like a complete scam: “hey, we opened this registry just so you have to get a domain in this one as well to avoid problems”.
