The mayor of Golzow wanted to save the village’s primary school from closure, but there weren’t enough enrolments. He saw the integration of refugee families as an opportunity for the village. But local people were unsure.
Nour was a fast learner, quickly picking up the German language and skipping two grades. In 2019, she moved up to secondary school. In 2025, she took her secondary school leaving exams, or “Abitur.”
