Open standards aren’t flashy, but they are one of the simplest ways to reduce long term vendor lockin and costs

  2. A good first step to break free of Microsoft’s stranglehold with Office. Considering they have Softmaker Office and the LibreOffice foundation (TDF) is also based there, this is great news.

That headline is misleading, ODF will be mandatory only within the software stack for public administration. Personal or other business documents can still be any format you want.

Step by step. Not saying odt needs more work but hey this is good news!

    Well done Germany 🇩🇪

Nothing new in Italy I guess. Guidelines dated 2006, and law making open standard mandatory for govs and public docs is dated 2021.

Most of you don’t even create microsoft word documents that require microsoft word capabilities. For receiving the docs, PDF is usually enough.
