Man infiltrates Chinese embassy in Japan: “I wanted to have a direct discussion about the hard-line stance toward Japa”

Just after 9 a.m. today, a 23-year-old man entered the premises of the Chinese Embassy in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police Department. The man is believed to have entered the area with a knife, and a knife-like object was found at the scene. Regarding the motive for the intrusion, the man said things like, "I wanted to directly talk to the Chinese ambassador about his hard-line stance toward Japan," and "It wasn't to hurt others, but to surprise them. I wanted to surprise the ambassador,"' according to an interview with TV Tokyo.

According to investigators, the man became a senior Self-Defense Force officer this month. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident.
