WANA (Mar 25) – Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva has warned that attacks on the country’s civilian infrastructure, including nuclear and oil facilities, could have long-term consequences for public health and the environment.
In a letter addressed to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, Iran’s envoy Ali Bahreini highlighted the impact of ongoing attacks on Iran’s healthcare sector.
According to the letter, 21 healthcare workers have been killed, seven hospitals are no longer operational, 49 medical centers have been damaged, and 81,000 civilian residential units have been destroyed.
Bahreini also raised concerns about what he described as repeated attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, as well as deliberate strikes on oil storage sites in Tehran.
He warned that such incidents could have significant and lasting effects on both public health and the environment.
The Iranian envoy stressed that these actions constitute a violation of international and humanitarian law.
