A special parliamentary committee investigating allegations of politically motivated indictments under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration has adopted a witness list that includes prosecutors involved in cases related to President Lee Jae Myung.
The committee approved 102 witnesses at a plenary session Wednesday, including prosecutors Park Sang-yong and Eom Hee-jun, as well as acting Prosecutor General Koo Ja-hyun.
Park, who handled the case of an alleged illegal remittance to North Korea by Ssangbangwool Group, was to be questioned over allegations that he coerced suspects and attempted to elicit specific statements during the investigation.
Eom and many other prosecutors who investigated the Daejang-dong development scandal during Lee’s tenure as leader of the Democratic Party were also named as witnesses.
The list also includes National Intelligence Service Director Lee Jong-seok and a special agent, as the committee plans to examine the 2020 killing of a South Korean official in the Yellow Sea.
The main opposition People Power Party criticized the committee’s operation as unlawful, citing a law that bars parliamentary probes from interfering in ongoing trials or investigations.
