we were going through some containers and found this power bank that has split open from the battery expanding. Where do we take it? I'm scared of taking it with us in the car but I'm more scared of it burning the house down š
we've just put it outside away from anything and in the shade, but obviously we want it gone asap. I know there are places that take old batteries and electronics but do they also take fucked up ones like this?

As a starting point, I would recommend checking out the FAQs on the Bcycle website, specifically under the safety section regarding swollen batteries.

In the Brisbane River with all the car batteries and e-scooters
Your other option is to get a bucket of water and add salt to it wait 48 hours put it in that and quickly drive to a council dump and see a staff member can direct you to a battery bin.
Another option is to get a really large tin like an old paint can and fill it with sand and then bury it in the sand and contact the city council for advice.
Battery World take spicy pillows as part of their recycling program

Willawong transfer station, I exactly the same powerbank, bought at jaycar two years ago.
Smart, do not remove it. Take it to a battery world in the safest way you can. Don’t enclose it in anything you wouldnt trust to save your life, e.g. an esky could just become more shrapnel if youre scared of an explosion (which is extremely unlikely).
Dissolve a cup of table salt in a bucket of water, drop the battery in, leave for 48 hours.

Go on. I double dog dare ya!
Sacrifice it to PoseidonĀ
You can contact Battery World and see if they can dispose.

Logan river.
Ocean
Chop it with an axe. At least you will know when it’s gonna catch on fire š¤£
Bunning and battery world accept batteries
Release it back to the traditional owners
Feed the eels. /s
Get a 10l+ bucket or plastic tub, fill it with salty water, submerge for a few days
I see lots of suggestions involving the ol saltwater trick, but I think there’s an easier way out here – throw it in a neighbours saltwater pool, unless you’re in the parts of Logan where pools are only heard about on MAFS and the like, in which case I also vote Logan River.

Get a jar without any plastic (a metal lid is fine) and pop in there for transport. Local tips have recycling. The jar will deprive it of oxygen which will stop any fire that may start. A jar or a metal bucket of sand will do it.
Stab it and run (don’t actually do this)
Man that’s dodgy they sell power banks with lipos, they should be li-ion
while you determine where to take it, you can store it in your bbq. if it does catch fire an outside bbq is best possible place
Put it in a bucket of sand and call the closest
fire station. I’m sure dirt would work the same.
