Actor and director Dragan Bjelogrlić said tonight that almost the entire industry is aware that there are divisions into “suitable and unsuitable,” adding that he himself has faced pressure to change his views for the sake of work, specifically not to mention the president of the state.
After the film “Toma,” I was offered to do whatever I wanted, but under one condition – to be loyal. I was told: everything is allowed, just don’t touch the president, Bjelogrlić said on the show “360 Degrees” on N1 television.
Blacklists exist and we all know it, but it is difficult to prove. I know, and almost my entire industry knows, about two series that were filmed this summer, where the director had the casting returned three times with lists of suitable and unsuitable people. You cannot prove that, the director will not say it because he will no longer work, Bjelogrlić emphasized.
Bjelogrlić believes that the space for work has significantly narrowed and that today almost exclusively politically suitable people are working.
Previously, the loyal and the neutral worked, and now only the loyal work. The neutral can no longer work, he claims, noting that institutional support for cinematography has almost disappeared.
The Film Center of Serbia practically no longer exists, no calls for projects have been announced for a year. There is no fund for cinematography, there are no festivals, there is nothing. Film literally does not exist. Only theater survives because it can sustain itself through ticket sales at the box office, Bjelogrlić concluded.
