The Kosovo national team is currently just one match away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which is being held in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
The Dardanian boys have only one obstacle, and that is Turkey, with the match to be played on March 31 at “Fadil Vokrri”, as part of the World Cup “play-off” final.
In the event of a triumph that day, Kosovo would then qualify for the first time in a major tournament, and only after the third attempt to qualify for a World Cup, having previously failed for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Kosovo reached the final of the “play-off” after defeating Slovakia in the semi-finals on Thursday, March 26, in Bratislava, with a score of 4-3.
If Kosovo achieves qualification for the World Cup, then it will be part of Group D, where it is also one of the co-organizers of this tournament, after the draw made on December 5, 2025.
The United States, Paraguay and Australia are part of this group, which will also include the winner of UEFA’s “play-off” C, which includes Kosovo and Turkey.
Meanwhile, Turkey is seeking to return to the World Cup after 24 years, having last participated in 2002, when they finished in third place.
