As we stand on March 29, the Cleveland Browns have not added a veteran quarterback to the roster. This leaves just Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel as their only three options with the NFL Draft in just under a month.
They have been linked to Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, who personally knows head coach Todd Monken. They have also met with the Alabama quarterback at both the NFL Combine and on a top-30 pre-draft visit to Berea. However, will they actually add another rookie quarterback to the roster?

That is to be decided. However, with NFL free agency mostly in the rearview mirror, one NFL insider has reported there is a clear leader in the clubhouse to start for the Browns in 2026. So, what did NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo have to say on Cleveland’s quarterback room?
Who is the perceived frontrunner to start for Browns?
Garafolo, while appearing on Good Morning Football, stated that not only does Watson have a great chance to start for the Browns in 2026, but he’s seen as the potential leader in the clubhouse for that race. Here is what Garafolo had to say:
“Does Deshaun Watson have a chance to be the Browns’ starter in 2026? Uh, yes, he does. And in my opinion, he’s got a great shot… He was previously an accomplished quarterback. There’s been a lot that’s happened off the field. I understand that. But to me, Deshaun Watson might even be in the pole position at this point to be the Browns’ starter for this upcoming season.”
We’ll see how this plays out, but the Browns are setting us up for yet another down season if this is the quarterback room they intend to trot out in training camp.
