Apple has appointed longtime Google executive Lilian Rincon as its new vice president of product marketing for artificial intelligence, signaling a continued push into advanced AI capabilities, according to Reuters.

Rincon, who spent nearly a decade at Google, will report directly to Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak, also known as “Joz.” Her hiring comes as the company prepares to roll out a significantly upgraded version of Siri later this year, per Reuters.

During her tenure at Google, Rincon served as Vice President of Product for Google Shopping and played a central role in shaping the development of Google Assistant. Her work included overseeing consumer-facing shopping experiences and integrating generative AI features that reached billions of users. She also previously held roles at Microsoft and Skype, contributing to her experience in building AI-driven platforms.

At Apple, Rincon will oversee product marketing for key AI initiatives, including Apple Intelligence and Siri. The move is part of broader organizational changes as the company accelerates its artificial intelligence strategy, according to Reuters.

The hiring aligns with Apple’s efforts to revamp Siri using technology tied to Alphabet’s Gemini AI model. The updated assistant is expected to offer more advanced capabilities and improved performance compared to previous versions, per Reuters.

Apple is also reportedly planning to expand Siri’s functionality by allowing it to interact with multiple AI services beyond ChatGPT. This could include integration with third-party chatbot applications through the App Store, potentially arriving with the iOS 27 update.

Rincon’s appointment follows Apple’s recruitment of Amar Subramanya last year as vice president of AI, bringing in additional expertise from both Microsoft and Google to focus on artificial intelligence research and safety. According to Reuters, these hires reflect Apple’s growing emphasis on strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
