Not even April 1st yet. Maybe the start date was an early April fools…

Great to see. I’ll wait a few days to let the early rush go through, and will then take the kids somewhere. Combining metro and vline. Would be good if this gets extended.

On my way to work now and it’s weirdly motivational how kind to one another everyone is being while we’re all crammed in like sardines together. 🥰

We’ll have to wait and see how things play out but I suspect we’ll just see patronage rebound back towards pre-covid levels if anything, considering that we’re still a fair way down relative to a decade or so ago.
Compared to the 2018/19 ‘pre-covid’ patronage, the overall total 2024/25 patronage has only recovered to about 77%. Saturdays have seen the most recovery with a bit over 90% of the pre-covid patronage, while the AM peak is still only at about 70%.
I could see weekends probably jumping a little beyond pre-covid levels considering they’ve already recovered well, but with WFH and the likes becoming much more widespread I’d say the peaks will probably only jump back to about pre-covid levels and not much higher for the time being.

Trains are very busy. And helpfully ‘networking issues’ in Flinders Street area.

And it’s absolutely chaos. Major delays. Might as well just WFHor continue driving. Melbourne’s public transport system is 30 years behind and is just not even close to good enough to serve the needs of this city.

I haven’t been in Melbourne for a few years, which station is that?! Looks so cool with the city in the background

I will start eating Mexican every day so I can power my car on methane before I choose to use public transport.
Which will now be overloaded with entitled little fuckers.

Just completed 1st part of my 1hr30 journey. I would say the train has about 20 to 30% more people in it than my usual…
Train outbound about usual…

It should have coincided with diesel rationing in the metro area to preserve it for farmers.

It was busy busy at 6.10am arriving at Parkville around 6.40am.
My first trip through through the tunnel, too, that was a bit exciting but I tried to act cool like I didn’t care.
Already witnessed a passenger complain to train staff over not wanting low income people and druggies on the train ☠️☠️

Was prepared for a busy train at Footscray but was only 80%full. Still had seats available at 8:10AM to the city.

Insane how the same Labor party can be reasonably good in one state (Victoria) and absolute fucking shit in another state (New South Wales). The NSW Labor party even try to make people go to the office whenever they can, and all the employees are quietly not complying at all.

High petrol prices are going to continue well past 1 month. Will they extend again? Can Victoria afford the 75 million in lost revenue?

I can’t wait for them to notice they aren’t really losing any money on the bus network, essentially nobody taps on busses in my area. We had myki cops show up and it’s the first time I’ve seen them check the busses in the 2 years I’ve lived here, pretty much every single person (talking 25+) copped a fine and the myki cops seemed genuinely baffled that so many people weren’t tapping on lmao. No wonder the busses are always so jam packed with no new ones added I years if they genuinely think there’s only ever like 5 people on them.

Are the sunburny/pakenham lines not seeing too much increase because they have SUCH frequent services compared to other lines? It’d be good to live there now and maybe not feel the crowding as much!
