A Lithuanian deputy minister urged Ukraine to urgently share drone tracking and alert Baltic states when unmanned systems stray, promising improved regional air defence cooperation.
Ukraine should establish warnings to the Baltic states about drones flying near their territories.
This view was expressed by Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Tomas Godliauskas. He stressed the importance of prompt data sharing between states regarding drones that drift off course.
One of the main messages is that Ukrainians should share this information if they see it, track it, and know that a drone has veered off course. At the level of intelligence agencies, such information should spread naturally, and the states should be informed about it
– Tomas Godliauskas
The deputy minister added that with astronomical data from Ukrainian experience, the defense in the Baltic states could be strengthened through coordination among services and the participating countries.
Lithuania’s Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Asta Skaisgirytė, previously informed that negotiations with Ukraine are underway regarding the possibility of warning the Baltic states about drones that may fly near their borders.
Therefore, in our own interests, to have here a reliable and effective air defense system, making maximum use of the lessons and the advanced experience that Ukraine applies in the fight against drones
– Tomas Godliauskas
Godliauskas noted that Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas, who visited Ukraine last week, discussed the issue of information sharing on air defense with Kyiv colleagues.
Prime Minister Inga Rugiene stated that on March 24 a Ukrainian drone fell on Lithuanian territory, which was planned to strike targets in Russia.
Lithuania continues to consider strengthening joint air defense measures and exchanging experiences with Ukraine to increase readiness for similar incidents.
