That makes no sense. There’s a w class on the other side of the intersection on the left hand side of the road. An A class at the stop with people getting off it, and another W in front of it. The only one that could possibly be going the wrong way is the W in front, but the nearest shunt is further up and it would have had to travel a fair distance after bang roading (going the wrong way) to be in that position. If you mess up like that, you stop where you are and report it and fix the problem immediately. The only reason someone would drive that far would be to lose their job deliberately.
I think more likely, a tram got caught under a section insulator and had to try and roll backwards to get the pantograph to touch live wire. This isn’t a major problem in the sense that driver won’t get in any real trouble. 99% of the time it’s caused by a pedestrian or motorist doing something stupid and causing the tram to stop shorter than planned
*edit*
The W in front might have had a fault. Sometimes the driver needs to change ends to check if it works from the other end so it looked like they were driving the wrong way but they are just checking the equipment

There was a mechanical issue with the W in front. There was no incident with points or any “wrong routing” there aren’t any points there anyway.

Ok – so what’s a W again? asking for a friend
Not a good start for the free public transport.
Was wondering why my tram got diverted
