The National Assembly has passed a bill designating May 1, Labor Day, as a public holiday.
The bill passed by a vote of 194 to two and three abstentions during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Although Labor Day has been recognized as a paid holiday since 1994, certain workers, including civil servants, teachers and those in the delivery sector, were not guaranteed a day off under the Labor Standards Act.
With the bill’s passage, Labor Day will become a public holiday from this year, following approval by the Cabinet.
