Official statistics on energy use on farms in England have been updated and clarified, according to a recent government publication. The report details the types and quantities of fuel used by agricultural businesses, alongside information on renewable energy generation and carbon audits.

Data was revised in October 2025 to correct a processing error affecting several specific data points. These included information on the reasons farms first installed solar panels and data on farms intending to install renewable energy systems. A machine-readable dataset was also updated at that time.

In March 2026, further clarifications were added regarding the cost of red diesel. The published cost figures now specify they apply only to red diesel used for vehicles and machinery, excluding any costs for heating purposes. This additional detail was included following user requests for more information on red diesel expenses and usage.

The publication covers annual fuel consumption, renewable energy sources, and carbon audit practices on English farms. It also examines the actions farms have taken based on their carbon audit results and the tools commonly used for those calculations.
